Top Albums of 2004

I was planning on writing a post not dissimilar to Fil’s except I realized that I probably only bought a dozen albums this year. So, it would be a little disingenuous for me to say “these are my top 10 albums of the year” - it makes it sound like I bought hundreds of CD’s and these rose to the top. Anyhow, there was a bunch of stuff that came out this year that I really enjoyed and purchased.

Albums I really liked:
- The Killers - Hot Fuss
- The Twilight Singers - She Loves You
- Ray LaMontagne - Trouble
- Modest Mouse - Good News for People Who Love Bad News
- Tom Waits - Real Gone
- Interpol - Antics
- Badly Drawn Boy - One Plus One Is One
- Bobby Bare Jr. - From the End of Your Leash

Albums I found to be pretty good:
- The Streets - A Grand Don’t Come For Free
- The Zutons - Who Killed The Zutons
- Grant Lee Phillips - Virginia Creeper

Albums I wish I’d bought:
- Arcade Fire - Funeral
- Franz Ferdinand - Franz Ferdinand
- Magnet - On Your Side

  2. I have the Arcade Fire and Franz Ferdinand albums if you want them, just let me know.

As an aside, I was thinking of doing a private posting of an album every week or so (the dl would only stay up for a week), do you think that’s something you’d be interested in?

  3. Also, I forgot to mention, I’m not familiar with most of your list, we should trade sometime. Are you using the super-anal ripping method?

  4. Yes, I’m using Exact Audio Copy with the filters or whatever from that website. Bobby Bare Jr. and Badly Drawn Boy I bought on iTunes though, so to rip and re-encode them would sacrifice some quality. The others I ripped myself from CD.

I’d be up for a weekly album swap or whatever. Have you ever tried http://yousendit.com/ ?

  5. No, I haven’t. I’d rather keep this off some third-party service for legal reasons (I wouldn’t want the traffic to be misconstrued).
