“We hardly new ya”

Filed under: me — Tom @ 3:33 pm

I’ve seen the phrase “we hardly new ya” or “we hardly knew ye” used in an awful lot of places. Does anyone know where it came from? Did it originate with the JFK book or does it have a deeper history? I see it slapped at the end of random things and don’t really understand it.
