{"id":70,"date":"2003-05-19T09:09:46","date_gmt":"2003-05-19T17:09:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/lianza.org\/blog\/?p=70"},"modified":"2003-05-19T09:09:46","modified_gmt":"2003-05-19T17:09:46","slug":"more-on-the-linuxsco-scandal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lianza.org\/blog\/2003\/05\/19\/more-on-the-linuxsco-scandal\/","title":{"rendered":"More on the Linux\/SCO scandal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Related to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lianza.org\/mt\/archives\/000144.html\">this post<\/a>, the plot thickens&#8230; Microsoft <a href=\"http:\/\/news.com.com\/2100-1016_3-1007528.html\">announces<\/a> they will license Unix code from SCO (<a href=\"http:\/\/slashdot.org\/article.pl?sid=03\/05\/19\/1055223&#038;mode=thread&#038;tid=109&#038;tid=190&#038;tid=185&#038;tid=130&#038;tid=187\">Slashdot discussion<\/a>).  I don&#8217;t know much about the legal implications of this (IP in particular) but it would seem to me that such a move could cause Microsoft to then say &#8220;we have a financial stake in this, so we will help in the fight against Linux.&#8221;  SCO is not a particularly threatening company that carries a ton of weight&#8230; Microsoft on the other hand, is.<\/p>\n<p>Like I said though, this is all pretty much speculation and I don&#8217;t know if there&#8217;s even a legal foundation for it.<\/p>\n<p>A related article, definitely worth a read, was released by the Open Source Initiative: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.opensource.org\/sco-vs-ibm.html\">Position Paper on the SCO vs. IBM Complaint<\/a>.  It is a fairly comprehensive rebuttle to the suit from SCO although I haven&#8217;t finished it yet.  Quite good so far.
